John L Friedenbach
I am John L Friedenbach, the author of Green Garden Growers. I grew up on a farm in Montana where mother grew a garden each year to help feed the family. My roll was to help cultivate and hoe to control the weeds. Mother done most of the direct seeding as she did not want to leave that delicate task to us children. Harvesting along with helping to prepare the harvest was also part of my gardening task. Upon graduation from high school I joined the military thus ending my gardening. About 10 years ago I got tired of eating what appeared to be ripe tomatoes, but were actually still green. So I decided to grow my own tomatoes. I bought a couple of starter plants from the big box store and transplanted into 5 gallon buckets. This was the beginning of growing my own food. Today I have a garden plot 15' x 25' where a grow a variety of vegetables, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, garlic, lettuce, onions peppers, pole beans, tomatoes and squash. In order to grow the cucumbers, pole beans, and squash in such a small space I use trellises to grow them vertically. My passion is to eat organically grown fruits and vegetables as much as possible. My intent is to provide gardeners with knowledge and tools to help them succeed.

My role was to assist in cultivating and hoeing to control the weeds, while my mother handled the delicate task of direct seeding. I also contributed to harvesting and preparing the harvest. After joining the military and leaving gardening behind, I became frustrated with store-bought tomatoes that appeared ripe but were still green. This led me to start growing my own tomatoes in 5-gallon buckets from starter plants. This marked the beginning of my journey into growing my own food. My passion for organic gardening drives me to provide other gardeners with knowledge and tools to help them succeed.
